Why the UBM Concept was Created by AQBS
by AQBS | Hair Loss Champion
UBM did not start as a product idea. It came from years of putting my hands on my own scalp and noticing that one area did not always behave like another.
Some regions moved easily. Others felt tighter. Some areas felt soft and responsive, while others seemed rigid or almost stuck. That made me question the usual advice to simply “massage your scalp.”
For how long? How hard? What are you actually trying to move? And how do you know whether anything is improving?
That is where Universal Baseline Mobility — UBM came from.
The basic idea is simple: before stacking tools, topicals, and stimulation, we should first understand whether the scalp tissue itself can move normally. Can it glide, compress, shift under the fingers, and respond evenly across different regions?
I eventually stopped thinking of this as just massage. Massage is broad. Mobility work has a purpose. You anchor the fingers, move the scalp itself, notice where movement is limited, and work gradually to improve that baseline.
UBM also fits naturally into the larger Capillus Codex framework. Within BRSE — Subtraction, Normalization, Addition, Formalization — mobility belongs in the early work of getting the scalp back toward a more responsive state.
UBM does not claim that mobility alone cures androgenetic alopecia. It asks a narrower question:
What is the physical condition of the scalp tissue, and can that condition be improved?
That question became important enough that I decided to formalize it and eventually build UBM Foundations around it.
The concept began with something very simple:
I put my hands on my scalp and realized that not all of it moved the same.
Everything after that came from asking why. 9$ UBM Manual
