A Nod to Einstein: Why I Called It the General Theory of Hair Loss and Reversativity

The point was never comparison. It was the idea that a complicated problem might become clearer if the relationships underneath it could be described.


Albert Einstein has been one of my personal heroes for a long time.

So when I finally decided to take more than a decade of my research, observations, personal experience and ideas about hair loss and put them into one larger theory, the name came naturally.


I called it The General Theory of Hair Loss and Reversativity. Obviously, that was a nod to Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity. Not because I was comparing a theory about male pattern baldness to one of the great achievements in modern physics. That would be ridiculous. The homage was in the way of thinking.


What has always fascinated me about Einstein was the ability to look at something enormous and complicated and search for the relationships underneath it. Instead of treating every observation as an isolated event, you ask whether there is some deeper structure connecting them.


That idea stayed with me because hair loss had become exactly that kind of problem for me. I started losing my hair at 19. What began as a very personal attempt to understand what was happening eventually became an obsession with a larger question:


Why does progressive hair loss unfold the way it does?

Over the years I encountered hormones, inflammation, circulation, fibrosis, scalp tension, follicular miniaturization, immune activity, tissue changes, treatments, tools and dozens of competing explanations. Most of them contained something useful.


But I kept feeling like I was looking at pieces of the same machine. I wanted to know what connected them. That eventually led me to a much smaller idea underneath the larger General Theory: what I call the Restoration Equation.

In the currently published Version 2.0, I express it as:

H = K × C/R


The equation is conceptual. It is not a clinical calculator and it is not meant to pretend that hair biology can be reduced to three perfectly measurable numbers. It is a relationship. In simple terms, K represents the viable biological or follicular capacity that remains. C represents effective circulation and tissue exchange. R represents the restriction imposed by the pathological scalp environment. The simplest way I sometimes describe it is:


Hair improves as effective circulation and exchange rise and restriction falls — provided enough viable follicular capacity remains.


The idea was that productive hair expression may depend on the relationship between remaining biological capacity, what the tissue can effectively receive and exchange, and how much resistance or pathological burden the local environment places against that process. The equation then became the root from which the larger theory could grow.


That is where Reversativity enters.


If progressive hair loss involves a scalp moving through changing biological and physical conditions, then restoration cannot only ask what stimulates growth. It also has to ask which conditions developed during that progression, which remain reversible, and what has to move in the opposite direction. Version 2.0 now organizes that progression through six proposed states:


Initiation, Activation, Accumulation, Remodeling, Entrenchment and Quarantine.


Those states are not replacements for the Norwood scale. Norwood describes the visible geography of hair loss. I am trying to describe something different: the proposed condition of the territory underneath it.


It influenced the development of Capillus Codex, my work with scalp state, restoration sequencing, and eventually frameworks such as BRSE — Subtraction, Normalization, Addition and Formalization.


The equation became a theory. The theory began becoming a system. And the system keeps forcing me to go back and refine the theory. That may actually be the part of the Einstein homage that means the most to me.


A useful theory should not simply give you something impressive to say. That is why the General Theory has already changed substantially since I first published it in July 2025. And I expect parts of it to change again.


Einstein looked at the universe. I started with my scalp at 19. Very different problems. But the instinct that inspired me was the same:


There has to be a deeper relationship underneath what we can see.


That search became the General Theory of Hair Loss and Reversativity.

And more than a decade after my own hair loss began, I’m still following the question wherever it leads.
